What are Chakras?

Chakras refer to energy points in your body. There are a total of 7 different chakras. Each chakra is associated with a certain color and a certain point in your body. The seven chakras start from the base of your spine working their way up to the top of your head and are as follows: root chakra, sacral chakra, solar plexus chakra, heart chakra, throat chakra, third eye chakra, and crown chakra.

  1. Root Chakra

The root chakra is the 1st chakra, and is also known as the Muladhara Chakra and is located at the base of the spine. The root chakra is associated with the color red and it signifies its role as a link between the physical world and our internal energetic system. It provides you with a foundation for your life, helps you feel grounded, and gives you a sense of security and stability. 

  1. Sacral Chakra

The sacral chakra is the 2nd chakra, also known as Svadhishthana chakra. The sacral chakra is located just below the navel and is associated with the color orange. The sacral chakra is responsible for maintaining the water element in the body. It is also very closely associated with the bladder, kidneys, and reproductive organs due to its location and is believed to help regulate the flow of energy in this region of the body. A balanced sacral chakra is associated with emotional awareness, creativity, fluid movement, passion for life, and a healthy sex drive. 

  1. Solar Plexus Chakra

The solar plexus chakra is the 3rd Chakra, and is also known as the Manipura Chakra. The solar plexus chakra is associated with the color yellow and is responsible for our ability to feel confident and in control of our lives. Having a balanced solar plexus chakra is associated with feelings of personal power, confidence, high self esteem, and a healthy sense of purpose.

  1. Heart Chakra

The heart chakra is the 4th Chakra, and is also known as the Anahata Chakra.The heart chakra is associated with the color green and is responsible for helping us balance our emotions, encourage a deeper sense of self-awareness, as well as build meaningful relationships with others. A balanced heart chakra is associated with inner peace, feelings of compassion, and emotional balance. Some symptoms of an open heart chakra are feelings of unconditional love and compassion for others, having healthy relationships with others, and feeling connected to the world around you.

  1. Throat Chakra

The Throat Chakra is the 5th Chakra and is also known as the Vishuddha Chakra and is associated with the color blue. The throat chakra governs your ability to speak, listen as well as express yourself through truth, creativity, individuality, and purpose. A balanced throat chakra is associated with being able to communicate with clarity, wisdom, and discernment. When your throat chakra is opened and balanced, you will find yourself being able to speak fearlessly and compassionately, and you will also be able to listen to and understand others. 

  1. Third Eye Chakra

The Third Eye Chakra is the 6th Chakra and is also known as the Ajna Chakra. It is associated with a deep indigo color and is located in the center of your head right between the middle of your eyebrows. The third eye chakra is our intuition, sixth sense, gut feeling, and inner teacher. Having a blanched third eye chakra will allow you to see life with clarity, strong intuition, and self-awareness. You will find yourself becoming more alert, aware and able to concentrate better on ideas, thoughts and tasks. With a strong intuition, you will be able to make better decisions.

  1. Crown Chakra

The Crown Chakra is the 7th Chakra, also known as the Sahastrara Chakra is associated with the color purple. The crown chakra is located at the top of your head and is associated with higher consciousness and spirituality. Having a balanced crown chakra is associated with having confidence in yourself, inner peace, and feeling more connected to your life purpose as well as being able to understand what your life purpose is.
